Continent Shinrin The Shinrin {forest} continent is the second largest landmass on the surface of Nejiro. It is 19.573 million square kilometers in area and lies just seventeen degrees south of the equator at its most northern point. Earthquakes are common as many as fifteen hundred are recorded yearly with magnitudes ranging from four to six occurring regularly and lessor tremors happening almost daily. The total population of the continent is approximately five million people with the highest densities in the cities of Majuro and Rainbow, along with the Koizumi Dai Ichizoku landhold. The tropical climate supports wetland savannas, jungles, rainforests, and cloud forests with jungle highlands, hilly plains, grasslands and wetlands to the north. The south is dominated by mountains and rainforests all the way to the coastlines. The mean temperature is 25.2 degrees Celsius, and the annual rainfall average is over five hundred centimeters. The dry season lasts from June thru November, and the wet season from December thru May, with monsoons common February through April, and typhoons most likely from December through March. There is a high level of biodiversity with over one million identified insect species, a large number of mammals and reptiles like ataru {hawkbats}, forest elephants, bears, tigers, deer, frogs, leopards, coywolves, alligators, lizards, macaques, gibbons, hares, snakes, dromosaurs {leopard size velociraptor like feathered reptiles}, boar, hema {river horse}, and rhino are common throughout the continent. There are more than six hundred bir species, several dozen species of dreigiau cymru {welsh dragons - scaled and feathered flying 'lizards'}, over fifty thousand plant species, and more than three thousand species of freshwater fish like water snakes, catfish, carp, arapaima, tambaqui (the best tasting fish in the world), piranha, eel, stingray, tansui shark {freaswater}, peacock bass, and vampire fish. The Akashi Yama {Redstone Mountains} and the Tozai no Nettaiurin {living jewel rainforest} thrive in the south, occupying more than eleven million square kilometers of the continent. The rainforest is dense with an average canopy height of ninety-four meters. The mountains are mainly composed of basalt, rhyolite, silica, quartz, andesite, aluminum, chromium, titanium, corundum, carbon, and gold. But the abundant amounts of red sandstone, rose quartz, hematite, iron, chalcedony, garnet, rutile, and red jadeite close to the surface gives them their signature color and paints many of the southern beaches in multiple shades of pink. Also found here, in small amounts exclusive to the continent, are the Hinohoseki {firegems} semi-precious gemstones composed of black silica with inclusions of iridescent red, yellow, and orange minerals with an appearance similar to opal that are worth as much as fifteen thousand ryu per carat. The tallest peaks are Akai-Oka-san {mount red hill} at 4289 masl, followed by Tamayama {jade mountain} at 4195 masl. Akashi Yama has more than five hundred summits which range in height from two thousand masl to just over four thousand masl and an average height of three thousand masl. About ten percent of these are volcanoes, most are dormant, but there are sixty-three still active volcanoes (mostly strato type) in the range. The most famous is Haku-san {mount haku - white mountain}, which is a shield volcano still actively forming the Gemini Hanto {twin peninsula}. It is located on the western side of the peninsula and is seven hundred sixty-nine kilometers across with an elevation of two thousand sixty-three masl. It continues to grow at a steady rate of several meters per year, and has oozed lava, steam, and smoke daily for the past thirty decades from several different vents that ultimately flow into Emerald Bay and the Same no Umi and is generally covered by fog banks. To the northeast is the Kusonokawa {river of grass} composed of hilly grasslands, tropical savanna, marshes, wetlands, rivers, lakes, estuaries, and beaches. Supercell Storms are common here (and over most hill and grassland landscapes across Nejiro) during the wet season. It is mostly occupied by amphibians, reptiles, snakes, turtles, and insects. In addition, there are hundreds of bird species that make this their home, most notably the oniwatori {king chicken}, the harrier owl, and madana starlings. Also several small mammal species like beaver, badgers, swiftfoxes, meerkat, painted dogs, minks, otters, and rats. There are also several dozen large herds of nihodia {four legged mammal of tawny brown or black color that resembles a deer but has the lower jaw of a boar with tusks nd moveable horns on its head that it can move forward lile a lance to defend and attack - some ranchers raise it domestically for its meat, horns, and fur}, gazelle, springbok, impalas, wild spotted horses, zebra, kabau {water buffalo}, aknata, and prides of saja {large tawny colored felines with manes}, hyena, alfahd {large, fast, spotted felines}. To the northwest is the Ran Jangala {orchid jungle}. The dense jungle covered highlands sit on hills and plateaus between six hundred and fifteen hundred meters above sea level with abundant fertile soil due to more than one hundred dormant and active volcanoes in the region. Unlike the rest of the continent the tropical highlands experience a more uniform amount of rainfall throughout the year and a temperature range that rarely varies from twenty-four degrees celsius during the day, and nineteen degrees Celsius after nightfall. There are plentiful bamboo, cocoa, coffee, sugar, and tea plantations, also tree, fruit, and nut groves. The Gakkel Ridge originates from a tectonic event millennia ago. It is seven thousand two hundred eighty-five kilometers long and runs mostly parallel to the Flowerdale River and then curves north to the Saihokutan Hanto {northernmost peninsula}, (about thirteen hundred kilometers west of the city of Samar) and then continues through the ocean. There are several islands off the north coast of the continent that are the peaks of submerged Gakkel Ridge Mountains breaking the surface. The Gakkel Ridge forms the border between the Ran Jangala and the lower elevations of the Kusonokawa. The Akai Umi {the red ocean} picks up its deep violet color from several sources - minerals from the Akashi Yama, minerals from undersea volcano activity, minerals from the coral reefs, and a wide variety of beneficial algae. The Akai Umi lives within the gap (15288 km) between the east coast of Shinrin and the west coast of Tairiku, and the gap (12472 km) between the south coast of Shinrin and the north coast of the Caoyuen {wild grasslands} continent, and the gap between the east coast of Caoyuen and the west coast of Tairiku. The gaps are the result of continental shifts over millions of years (Shinrin and Caoyuen in the western hemisphere were once part of the continent of Tairiku in the eastern hemisphere) and the continental shelves over which the Akai Umi sits are enormous. The Akai Umi holds many of the most popular commercial fishing grounds on the planet, and some of the most populous global sea trade lanes, most of the traffic out of the cities of Siniy, Majuro and Port. The Same no Umi {shark ocean} stretches (22530 km) from the west coast of Shinrin to the East coast of Tairiku, and covers most of the planet, it is home to more than five hundred species of sharks (hence the name) and other very large creatures of the deep. The average depth of the oceans is 6820 meters, but the greatest depths lie in the Haishe Mizo {sea serpent trench} in the Same no Umi, it is 14797 meters at its deepest and ranges from 69 km wide to 198 km wide as it ranges 11748 km in a serpentine manner across the sea floor and forms an arc of one of the three ‘Rings of Fire’ on planet. Another well-known feature of the Same no Umi is the Seiyo Hosho {western barrier reef} consisting of hundreds of small islands, atolls, and reefs. The Seiyo Hosho lies between fifty and two hundred kilometers off the western coastline of Shinrin, it is 3653 kilometers in length and 514380 square kilometers in area, it is as much as 400 meters deep in places, but as shallow as 35 meters in most, it is visible from space. As it is a Crown Marine Nature Preserve – commercial fishing, mining, and drilling are forbidden in a one-hundred-kilometer sphere around the reef system, recreational fishing is allowed and licensed but limited by weights (individual and total catch) and times of year. Seiyo Hosho is regularly patrolled by the Nejiro Defense Troop and by both the NPO Sea Patrol and the Koizumi Kaijo boei-gun to assure this. Permanent structures are not allowed in the Seiyo Hosho Preserve, except for on a few designated islands with limited capacities. It is one of the most popular snorkeling and diving spots on the planet and there are two major resorts, Treasure Island Beach Club on Crusoe Isle and Hotel Cairns on Daydream Isle, and a handful of ryokan and minshuku {bed & breakfast} that cater to the tourists, (Imagine Starwood Resort on Hitode Shima {starfish isle} is exclusive to the planets ichizoku membership and The Palm Royale on Silkari Isle is exclusive to the ichizoku membership of Shinrin), and there are numerous multi-day sailing trips booked through Samar and Yakan. La Marina is a floating port that may dock and service up to three hundred boats, yachts, or cruise ships located between Crusoe Isle and Tayna Isle {mystery}. Twenty percent of all the fees and licenses generated through tourism go to the Seiyo Hosho Hozen Kikin {conservation fund} and is then applied to the scientific study of the reef system and to the conservation of the reef system. The reef system grows an average of two centimeters a year and more than four hundred species of coral, over fifteen hundred species of fish, and over four thousand species of mollusk have been identified. Due to the shallower waters around the reef system many of the larger denizens of the deep avoid the west coast of Shinrin altogether, some of which include: Haishe an egg laying, grilled, scaled, non-venomous, constrictor sea serpent that grows up to seventy meters long and seven meters wide that hunts anything smaller than itself, they have even attacked submarines and other submersible vehicles. Haelyong {sea dragon} smooth skinned mammals that have long triangular heads with large eyes and conical bladed teeth, have four flipper limbs, a dorsal fin, and vertical tail fins used for propulsion with a cruising speed of about fifteen kmph and top speeds of about fifty kmph, they are air breathing and have recorded dives of over three thousand meters for over three hours, they bear live young that grow up to thirty meters long with a layer of blubber for living in the deep oceans. Frilled Sharks with a broad flattened head, rounded fins and a sinuous body covered in sharp chisel shaped dentricles whose gills form a red fringe around its neck, its serpentine body’s cartilaginous skeleton is only slightly calcified to aid in its quick snake like strikes at prey and its ability to hang motionless in deep water, its posterior fins are also able to lash out at prey, its jaws, filled with three hundred backward trident shaped teeth in rows, ends at the back of its head to allow it to engulf prey half as long as its body which may grow up to seven meters long. Levayathyn are mega (largest sighting – length nine meters, weight two hundred seventy-two kilograms) octopi that are armored with flexible scales and dentricles and live mostly deep in the ocean’s trenches. Sea Tigers a species similar to mackerel shark that may grow up to twenty-five meters long with a bite force an average of 182,000 newtons and teeth built for grabbing prey and breaking bone, travels at speeds up to twenty-five kmph and depths up to eighteen hundred meters, with a grey on grey on grey striped color scheme. Toride Yama Koizumi-jo {citadel mountain Koizumi castle} Stronghold of the Koizumi Dai Ichizoku [opulation of the landhold is approximately one million. It is the most densely populated landhold on Nejiro] In a valley of the Akashi Yama {Redstone Mountains} formed by a fault the right-angled face three kilometers long was gashed nearly at its foot by a narrow horizontal slit four meters high permitting entry to the cavern’s interior. Inside is a maze of small caverns linked together with a gigantic, vaulted bubble of rock too high for any torch beam to illuminate, fifty-seven meters deep, tapering to forty-five meters and forty-two meters at either end. At the back eighteen different openings lead deep into further tunnel complexes. Springs of freshwater circulate in several of the tunnels. Nothing of the natural face of the mountain, a rugged cliff with a hanging curtain of rock two meters thick, was changed, but the inside was transformed into a beautiful, opulent, and ornate, almost byzantine living space. The lip of the cave was filled in with native rock so that the addition would look natural, leaving a wide opening that would serve as a main entrance the doors were made of a solid bronze alloy, and embellished by local artisans with symbols important to the Ichizoku. A ramp was formed out of blocks of crushed rock and slagged solidly into place before the natural courtyard and steps were cut into the sides of the ramp. The space just inside the rock wall was chosen for offices and living quarters for the administrators, The Chatelaine (currently Karen Wynn), and the Seneschal (currently Anne Todd Caffrey). An inner wall was built up paralleling the natural curtain, and levels began to be floored in, with windows cut evenly into the rock face and each window is fitted with tight shutters of the same bronze alloy as the doors. Natural chimneys leading from the interior caves to the clifftop provide ventilation and deep artesian wells and surface water sources in the tunnels allow for water to be pumped right into baths and sinks throughout the complex. The thermal layer under the ridge provides heat that with the flip of a lever can be diverted out of the complex. The communications tower is built high on the outer cliff with a long winding stair leading from inside on the ground level. The complex is regularly occupied by more than five thousand people. Out of the rubble quarried from the caverns were built outbuildings and residences for more than ten thousand in the east end of the valley near Tengu Lake {Raven Demon}. The one to three story stone buildings are built on pilings for circulation of air and flood protection with varicolored slate roofs and bronze alloy shutters that have decorative bands of color that represent family, Ichizoku, corporate, and guild affiliations engraved, enameled, or pained on them. The lake was named for its shape of a Ravens outstretched wing, its deep depths - three hundred and thirty-two meters at its deepest, and more than occasional flooding. The fifty-six kilometer long and seventy-four-kilometer-wide freshwater lake accommodates both commercial and recreational fishing (especially popular are the king threadfin salmon) and boating, while the sandy beaches and fields of wildflowers are a favorite recreational venue of the Ichizoku and tourists alike year-round. Here are also several pastures for domestic herd animals and poultry, along with dozens of greenhouses that grow everything from wild rice to orchids in the ninety-seven square kilometer valley. The above ground outlet of Tengu Lake the Ishikaribetsu {greatly meandering winding river}, flows for about two thousand kilometers southwest in a broad arc and empties into Mikadzuki Bay {crescent moon}, east of the Kapula Koichizoku landhold, and finally into the Same no Umi {Shark Ocean}. The underground outlet of Tengu lake flows into the Kasukedo Taki {cascade waterfall} which plunges out of the side of Yu Shan {jade mountain}, at six hundred cubic meters per second, over seven hundred meters above the Tang Wan Shuichi {Punchbowl pool} - itself approximately three hundred meters deep, west of the Irokane Valley {gold bronze alloy}. Majuro Now just a few years from its bicentenary, the city of Majuro (population as of last census 2,062,347) began its charter process by the Saganami Dai Ichizoku after the second time the Vulcan Arms Industrial Park outgrew its borders (also chartered by the Saganami Dai Ichizoku). Majuro is built near the shores of Lake Wanaka, the largest freshwater body on the continent. The lake is 1636 km long and 279 km wide, with an average depth of 745 meters and a maximum depth of 1643 meters, in a rift valley formed by the genesis of the Gakkel Ridge. The bottom of of the lake is 1186 meters below sea level, but below this lies some seven kilometers of sediment, placing the rift floor between eight and eleven kilometers below the surface. There are several hydrothermal vents at the bottom of the lake with water reaching temperatures as high as fifty degrees Celsius in places. Stormy weather on the lake is common and can result in waves as high as five meters. Over three hundred rivers and streams drain into the massive lake. The largest outflow tributary is the Flowerdale River which flows 1736 km northeast to the Akai Umi {red ocean}, with an average depth of ninety-two meters it is navigable by both barges, and freighters with a maximum draft of sixteen meters. Majuro is the second largest center of heavy industry on Nejiro. Like Leyte, it is a fortified multi-walled city, both for protection from hostile forces, and to protect the city and environment from hazardous materials and processes. Many walled wards of the city also have moats of various sizes and materials to assist in separation of hazardous materials and processes from other wards. Walls, residences, civic, and government buildings are lime-washed with crushed nacre (both for safety and an iconic, artistic appearance), all other buildings are whitewashed with a variety of earths and pozzolanic materials to achieve a wide span of color across the city, with an architectural watchword of elegance in form and function. The city keeps the most stringent safety and environmental protection standards globally. Majuro is one of the largest employers of engineers and technicians, with some of the highest salaries on Nejiro. STEM, the science news monthly magazine and broadcast channel, is headquartered here along with their digital and media production studios for educational and news programs. The Institute of Technology, a city sponsored public school teaching secondary thru university students, is associated with both the Guild apprenticeship system, and Nagoya University, and enjoys research and internship exchanges and collaborations with many of the city's and Nejiro's government departments, guilds, industries, and businesses, and graduates some of the finest field scientists and engineers in system. Majuro's endeavors include all aspects of industry from raw materials processing to aeronautics and robotics manufacturing. Its shipbuilding encompasses both military and civilian river, coastal and deep watercraft. Majuro is the third largest railroad manufacturer after Leyte and Tarawa. Majuro also manufactures heavy machine tools and equipment for mining, construction, transportation, power generation, materials production, and factories. Tourism is not a priority of the city economy, but it does have a few tourists centered activities such as sailing regattas, and lake activities. There is also the Rakko Hozon (a Crown Nature Preserve) on the opposite side of the lake, to which the Gravid Rakko females begin to arrive in late May and early June for their nesting grounds (established millennia before the founding of the city). Rakko {walking whales} are a protected species, an unofficial mascot of the city. They are large semiaquatic furred omnivorous cetacean, with powerful jaws, nonrestrictive claws, strong limbs, and flipper like hind feet. They average about four meters long (with some males reaching five or six meters) and weigh about two hundred kilograms. On land, which they come to for fresh water, vegetation, and to give birth during the dry season; they waddle somewhat, but swims powerfully and gracefully in water where they spend the majority of their time and hunt large fish like sunfish and sharks cooperatively. The last two weeks of the dry season, in November, the Flowerdale River trade lanes and Majuro Port shut down for the Rakko Gather to allow pods to rejoin and greet the new pups and return to sea without interference (after several early incidences led to greatly damaged ships and loss of life), only sailing vessels (unpowered and of limited metric) are allowed on the lake at this time. Over time this has become somewhat of a festival, very popular with photographers, tourists, and sailors. Photographers and tourists are allowed to observe through cameras, binoculars, or telescopes from outside a certain zone that stretches well into Lake Wanaka (there are usually several larger rakko males on sentry duty). City Security, and law enforcement is handled by a cooperative effort between the Saganami Household Guard, the Nejiro Defense Troop, Nejiro Peace Officers, and the NPO Sea Patrol. Emergency services and hazardous materials mitigation on land and water are provided by the Nejiro Fire Brigade which serves the city from over two dozen houses. There is a publicly elected City Council which in turn elects a Mayor (currently Milton Bai). The largest airport on Shinrin is the Majuro Intercontinental, located on the outskirts of the city, has daily cargo and passenger flights worldwide, an irregular dropship schedule, and regular small craft flights across the stellar system. The jewel of the city is the art novae style Majuro Station, home to a great many high-speed passenger and freight lines that travel the continent daily, and also to the monorail and tram systems that serve as public transportation for the city. Rainbow Rainbow is a small city densely packed with buildings and people. The current population of 1,063,367 lives and works in just 167 square kilometers in the northwestern jungle highlands of Shinrin between the Tozai no Nettaiurin {living jewel rainforest} and the Ran Jangala {orchid jungle}. It is a high energy city and only dims the lights, so to say, between two and five am. It is a Free City started by a cooperative of several nearby industrial parks that moved together due to severe flooding. The city is built on the north side of a bowl-shaped crater on the top of a rounded hill mostly covered in foliage, Haree Chotee {green peak}, one thousand three hundred twenty-seven meters above sea level and just under one thousand meters across. The hill is believed to be the remains of a long extinct shield volcano. Due to the regular amounts of humidity and rainfall most days are quite foggy - parasols, umbrellas, and hats of all kinds are omnipresent, but on clear days the humidity engenders dozens of rainbows over the green covered hills. This phenomenon brought about the city's name. The Chowa no Kawa {harmony river} passes slightly northwest of the city, it is accessible by canals, and serves to move cargo into the city, (and around the region), via river barges and junks, and then southeast to Lake Wanaka and the city of Majuro. There are a dozen freight railways bringing materials and goods from bananas to teak from across the continent into the city. There are also several high-speed rail lines that provide speedy passenger service to the cities of Samar, Yakan, and Majuro from the modern architectural marvel of Enfys Station {rainbow}, whose diamond gridded compound curved steel shell is covered in a plastic based transparent polymer roof system that allows diffuse sunlight to illuminate the building and maintain a cool temperature in the interior. At night the Station is illuminated by programmable energy efficient lights glowing from the arched roof. The Rainbow Aerodrome is large enough to land small craft and carries cargo and passengers to worldwide intercontinental, island, and stellar destinations daily. The city is governed by a publicly elected Council that appoints a Mayor, (currently Tobiah Lausen) to professionally oversee the administrative operations of the city and implement Council policies. The city population is ethnically mixed and a melting pot of planetary diversity. Though the city is young, Rainbow was chartered by Parliament just seventy-eight years ago, it is the fastest growing economy on planet and attracts workers, investors, and business to the wide array of opportunities available from planetary, stellar, and interstellar sources. Most travel inside the city is via subway, even cargo and mail. Except for main thoroughfares, most roadways are narrow lanes allowing more space for warehouses, factories, and apartment buildings, walking and bicycling are highly encouraged. The city architecture has a pleasing mix of high rises, and shikumen {an architectural style combining east Asian and western elements} and art deco (with great attention paid to thermodynamic engineering). Typically, buildings are an average of six stories and constructed of stone or brick with a heavy wooden door and a stylistic stone arch. The city's byword is innovation, and the economy depends on such in its industry, commerce, transport, trade, and finance sectors. The city manufactures mostly consumer goods and mass market goods, making a wide variety of products such as sports equipment, baby products, bicycles, brushes, radios, notebooks, ball bearings, tablets, personal care products, parasols, furniture, hats, power cells, appliances, umbrellas, integrated circuits, cookware, and electronic bidets. But there are also textile mills, agricultural processing plants, food and beverage factories, and distilleries. Wholesale and retail are also important to the city's livelihood and shopping venues, arcades, and markets are heavily distributed throughout the city, street vendors are ubiquitous. The media and film industry both have more than a minor presence, many film and television studios are headquartered in Rainbow. The city has scores of cinemas and multiplexes and there are two major Film Festivals hosted in the city each year - Animation is Film in September and The Golden Flower Film Festival in February. There is a strong spectator sport culture and Kickboxing and MMA Fighting have as high a popularity as Association Football and Basketball. The Twin Kirin ball clubs are well ranked in their leagues and enjoy a high level of support from the residents. Tourism is another large portion of Rainbow's economy, as Shinrin, and Rainbow in particular have some of the highest disposable income levels on Nejiro, so many of Nejiro's finest resorts, hotel chains, cuisine, and amusements have representation here. Greenlands Public Park is one hundred and eighteen thousand meters of curated green spaces and gardens that hosts the Tako to Ongaku-sai {kite and music festival} every October. The Choa Po Seu {tiger shrine} is a beautiful Chinese joss house dedicated to the Chinese tiger god of good fortune, it features southern Chinese architecture and design, that is especially busy during the New Year Holidays when many come to ask for success in their careers, love, money, or fertility. The Festival of Hearts is a street festival that explodes through Rainbow on the weekends between Valentine's and White Day celebrating romance, love, and joy, with hearts of all sizes, shapes, colors, and fabrications on display everywhere throughout the city. Samkranti {astrological passage} marks the arrival of spring in April and is celebrated for four days around the solstice with traditional rituals, parties, and festivals, as well as a city-wide water fight that most residents, and a large number of tourists, participate in. Though December and January is when the tourists really flock to Shinrin in general, and Rainbow in particular, for the most sunshine hours of the year - not to mention the most photogenic rainbows. One of the most well-known businesses with their origin in Rainbow is the Mad Hatter Tea Company. The company owns several tea plantations, urban and vertical farms that grow reserve and rare teas, and also has a digital store and boutique stores in most of the high-end shopping venues on planet and the stellar system, that offers exclusive and common blends of tea leaves, a wide array of tea paraphernalia, tea ware, biscuits, and an ever-changing limited monthly offering of hats of all shapes and sizes. Mount Bromo is a primary attraction a few dozen kilometers southwest of the city in the Valley of Flowers National Park, an active volcano whose top has been blown off. The crater inside constantly belches white smoke and other particles, and is surrounded by the Sea of Sand, fine volcanic ash with an overall unsettling and unearthly effect. Also in the park is Lake Toba, an immense volcanic lake about one hundred kilometers long and thirty kilometers wide, formed by an eruption some seventy thousand years ago, one of the largest resurgent calderas on Nejiro. The island in the middle of the lake, Berdea {green} has two lakes, Myrtle and Kaitoke, and many come to relax in their warm mineral waters. Samar Samar {evening conversation including music and poetry}, a college town, is a small city chartered by the Koizumi Dai Ichizoku near the northern tip of the Saihokutan Hanto {northernmost peninsula} of Shinrin east of the Gakkel Ridge. There are several private and public universities and colleges that are well known and well respected located here, among them Samar University, Sakamura Medical School, Morven Choir College, Institute of Advanced Study, Samar Polytechnic, School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, and the Erasmian University of Humanism. There are also several popular private primary and secondary boarding schools located in and around the city. Also here is Gateway Field, a small airport and intercontinental airfield located south of the city. A large rail station is located near the center of the city, Hokkyokusei {Northstar} famous for its cathedral-like design and its winding indoor paths through lush gardens and greenery, the serene setting is a wonderful escape from the chaos of the bustling station that serves the high-speed rail lines of the continent and also the light rail public transport system of the city. Also in the city are the Kaiyosaigai Chushin {ocean disaster center} and the Global Tsunami Warning Center, sub organizations of NOAA (Neiro Oceanic & Atmospheric Agency), which both monitor and respond to global ocean events from the Akai umi (to the east of Samar) and the Same no Umi (to the west of Samar). Samar architectural styles run from neo-classical to vernacular to neo-tropical and are deeply rooted in sustainability, attention to detail, and creating spaces that are open and airy. There is a very climate sensitive approach to the city architecture and the incorporation of lush landscaping and efficient bio-natural shading and cooling techniques are a priority in the equatorial tropical climate. Beyond education some of the most popular industries in Samar are tourism, health, research, technology, publishing, and wild caught seafood. The pharmaceutical industry is the most prominent with eighteen pharmaceutical research labs and eleven biopharma and pharmaceutical manufacturing companies located in Samar proper, and several more research and development endeavors located in and around the jungles west of the city. The tourist industry is centered around sailing and surfing, along with some very well-regarded hotels and a few premier cruise ship lines. The city (current population 128,572 plus as many as seventy thousand students) is governed by a publicly elected Mayor (currently Dean Fujioka) and their handpicked Aldermen executive council, working with a Ward Council that is elected by the individual city wards. Samar supports its own magistrate courts, police, fire, rescue, and other emergency response services, and is defended by contingents of the Koizumi Kokubo-gun {defense force} and the Koizumi Kaijo boei-gun {maritime defense force}. There is also a small NPO Tower with a resident agency and a unit of the NPO Sea Patrol located on the outskirts of the city port. An attachment from the Higher Learning Commission Annual Conference, from the QIS Faculty Club - some of our favorite dining options in Samar The Alchemist and Barrister, a popular watering hole for students and visitors spread across several bars and dining areas with a variety of good pub food from flatbreads and tacos to wings and burgers and a rotating draft beer list Landian {blue point} with several outdoor patios overlooking the best public beach and surf spot in the city has earned a loyal following for its raw bar and very fresh fish. The stadium seats as many as one hundred thousand. All with optimum views of the action (a wide variety of sports and athletic events as well as concerts and cultural events). With demountable and retractable seats and fields, and a skydeck with bars, food kiosks, exclusive merchandise, and lounges. The green buildings of the complex are powered by solar and ground sourced geothermal (as is much of the city), designed to withstand earthquakes (tremors an almost daily occurrence), with the shell of the stadium covered in millions of petal shaped, spiral patterned panels of programmable lights that put on quite a show from twilight onward, in theme for individual events. The rest of the complex contains open green spaces, walking trails, a tennis facility, a health club, Olympic size swimming and diving pools, pro-shops and boutiques, community playing fields, an extreme sports area, and a multilevel indoor arena that hosts equestrian sports, basketball, e-leagues, hockey, figure skating, and also concerts, events, banquets, and activities. Yakan is quite spread out, roads and boulevards are wide enough for regular traffic, which is limited to electric power, but are mostly used by delivery vehicles and livery vehicles. The tourists mostly use cabs and limousines, but locals mostly use the light rail system to get around - it is quick and efficient, is not crowded, and covers the whole city including the hills, beaches, and port areas, although motorcycles and scooters are also popular. Parking lots and structures in the city are minimal and designed to be either invisible or beautiful to behold. The local single home residence communities are scattered throughout the city and are named after geometric patterns and shapes, many of these neighborhoods create a vibe of feeling and design inspired by their shapes. Tourism is the engine and primary economy of the city, even the small amount of light industry in the city is focused on producing goods for the tourist trade, and there is enormous investment in the devotion and commitment to outstanding, exemplary, and exceptional service levels throughout the city from the lowest sanitation worker to the most exclusive concierge (and salaries definitely reflect this - e.g. wait staff earnings are commensurate with technicians or even engineers in other cities) [In general Nejiro is a non-tipping society and gratuities are only acceptable for favors and extraordinary services outside the norm.] Kokyo Senta Koen {public center park} is a nine hundred acre public park (full of lush vegetation and flowers carefully curated from the nearby rainforests) at the center of the city bordered by civic buildings - City Hall, the Mayor's Mansion (currently Akihiro Madrigal), Unity Hospital, Kinkyu Taio Honbu {emergency response headquarters} - with all services from the constabulary to firefighting and also the NPO Resident Office, the Yakan Gazette headquarters (a news daily that focuses on gossip, society news, calendars and coverage of local events that occasionally publishes global human interest stories, and headline news),Yakan Community Polytech, Kokyo Toshokan {the public library}, the Yakan Magistrate Courthouse, and The Postal Service. this in turn is surrounded by Hana no Odori {flower boulevard} a tropical flower lined wide boulevard perfect for parades and street fairs, which is surrounded by high rise apartment buildings and hotels with views of the park, ocean, bay, or city depending on the orientation of the building. The Amai {sweet} candy factory offers free tours and produces hand pulled saltwater taffy, hand pulled lollipops, konpeito, ichigo ame, peppermint creams, over one hundred flavors of jellybeans, chew candy, hard candy and gummies, also handspun ribbon candy, higashi, amanetto, and karinto. La Contessa is the finest hotel in Yakan, located right on the oceanfront of the Akai Umi, a luxury resort hotel and spa with a casino, private docks for the yachts of their most affluent guests in the natural lagoon in front of the hotel and uninterrupted views of the puffy pink sands of Akala Beach and the ocean beyond. the Grand Opera House (the most opulent on planet) hosts the finest touringart shows, symphonies, ballet and dance companies, pop and rock concerts, Broadway shows and theater, children's programming, speaking engagements, and opera companies. the Beachside ArtWalk contains extra wide sidewalks lined with tropical shade trees, artisan studios, art galleries, shops, izakaya, ryokan, sidewalk cafes, temples and shrines, museums, theaters, and music clubs on Akala Boulevard which runs parallel to the beach for over five kilometers and is in easy walking distance of its boardwalks and waves. The Aquaria is located on the harbor and includes an aquarium, a water park, the Biosphere Gardens, The Lantern - a working lighthouse you can tour which also houses a museum and a popular restaurant, and the Big Lift - an elevator with a circular glass cabin that moves sideways over the harbor and then upwards more than forty meters, it has incredible three sixty views of Yakan and Emmerald Bay. Encanto {charm} is the most well-known and exclusive nightclub on the continent, the venue exudes quality, style, and class from its Funktion1 sound system to the gourmet chef-grade food to the stellar lineup of DJ's and EDM aficionados. Zouk {party} is another well-known popular nightclub with a complex of six dance floors that play a variety of dance music, making sure everyone can have a really great time. the Pleasure Piers extend into Emerald Bay, are somewhat isolated on the far side of the harbor and contain a wide variety of intimate adult delights for the over twenty-five crowd. Tourists also enjoy the open air outdoor markets, casinos, rainforest trails, nude sunbathing, colorful yukata, beach leisure activities (or non-activities as the mod demands), amusement parks, shops and boutiques, golf, gelaterias, bars and clubs, cirques, numerous panoramic vantage points, shows, fine dining, exotic gardens, pickleball, polo fields, Indy car races, Mediterranean style villas and perches villages in the hills, festivals, private cabanas, sailing, snorkeling, deep sea diving, scuba diving on the coral reefs, convention center events, tasting and cocktail tours, plazas and fountains, and rainforest excursions. Vulcan Arms The Vulcan Arms Industrial Park was established by Phoenix Mercantile among the remains of some Terran Hegemony facilities soon after they established relations within the local system, over a century before the establishment of Nejiro. It started as a trade station and a place to process raw materials and agricultural products traded from the locals and slowly developed into military manufacturing and research and development labs in the interim years. Currently Vulcan Arms Industrial Park is the equivalent of four closed secure industrial parks bordered against each other plus the original facilities, all chartered by the Saganami Dai Ichizoku and Parliament. Vulcan Arms is one of the more secure locations on planet. It holds factories, workshops, and warehouses for the production, distribution, customization, maintenance, repair, and upgrade of military weapons, vehicles, gear, equipment, and supplies. It is also home to military research and development labs for the Military Ministry, the Defense Ministry, the Public Safety Ministry, and several Nejiroan defense contractors, including the primary laboratory of the Advanced Research Projects Agency. Vulcan Arms is located a few hundred kilometers north of Majuro on the eastern coast of Shinrin, on a tropical savanna near kilometers of pink sand beaches and the deeply violet waters of the Akai Umi {the red ocean}. It has its own naval port and yard, commercial port, rail station, and air station. The 53,431 residents have a half dozen guard gated communities with shops, marinas and yacht clubs, entertainment and cultural venues, parks and greenspaces, shrines and temples, restaurants and pubs, a light rail public transport system, as well as a central Town Hall and elected Mayor (currently Kamila Kawabe). Both the Saganami Household Guard and Saganami Security keep permanent contingents here, as well as the NPO, the NPO Sea Patrol, the Nejiro Fire Brigade, the Nejiro Defense Troop, and a few Nejiroan PMC security contingents. Gunji Kojo {military factory} is an independent Nejiroan defense contractor located in the Vulcan Arms Industrial Park. It is a publicly traded company with shares currently worth 612 Ryu each. The castle is on Mount Mignonette {jade green, emerald} (its peak is 3078 masl) a long dormant stratovolcano in the Akashi Yama {Redstone mountains} mountain range amidst the Tozai no Nettaiurin {living jewel rainforest}. {the castle keep height is fifty meters plus the fifteen meter high sloped stone base plus the engineered ten meter high 'hill' it stands on, castle area one hundred eight ha, castle buffer zone one hundred forty six ha} The castle is an elaborate defensive structure built in the classic Yamajiro style with modern materials and methods but of ancient design principles to current Nejiroan earthquake safety standards. {earthquakes of a magnitude of four or above are a frequent occurrence on Shinrin} The fortifications are built atop multiple ridges and connected together with bridges and tunnels; the entire mountain is a stronghold with significant underground architecture built right into the mountain. The impressive multi-story castle keep is both aesthetically beautiful and militarily hardened with intricate multi-tier rooflines and white walls that signify strength and elegance. The castle is 'protected' by a multitude of gold plated Shachihoko {sea monster with the head of a dragon and the body of a carp that are powerful protectants and servants} in several different size scales, their broad fins and tails face up toward heaven and their dorsal fins with their numerous sharp spikes cover the roof ridges and defends the building while the heads spouting holes convey water to quench fires or direct rainwater away from the roofline and sides of the building {many are equiped with sensors, cameras, microphones, speakers and/or weapons (e.g. explosive, blades, laser, missile, ballistic weapons, gas etc.)}. The castle keep stands over five hundred meters above sea level on a flat engineered rock surface more than eight hundred meters from the pass {located between the canopy and emergent layer of the densely wooded tropical rainforest with numerous kapok and teak trees}, and you have to cross several dry moats with embankments. The steep stone steps leading to the main keep wind around the ridges and mountain several times and are protected by moats, turrets, towers, ramparts, and enclosures {that are mined with booby traps, hidden passages, firebreaks, and trap doors} that incorporates the natural igneous rock face. The steep curved walls of the castle resemble sensu {foldable fan}, and there is a network of more than one hundred buildings {e.g. water-towers, store-houses, gates, barbican, kitchens, brewery, garages, towers, corridors, offices, (hydraulic) landing platforms, residences, silos, shrines, (escape) tunnels, dojo, recreation facilities, bridges, turrets, wells, barracks, sento, armories etc.}, baileys, gardens, and narrow rambling pathways protected by fortified walls. Palisades line the top of the castle walls and are planted with pine trees to add to the beauty of the gardens and to obscure views of the inside of the compound. There are a variety of a number of inclines constructed towers with multi-tiered roofs placed in many positions on the castle grounds as watchtowers and defensive positions but also as balconies that offer panoramic views of the moons and scenery, also as onsen, tea rooms, night rooms, orchards and gardens for the pleasure of the castle's 'lord' and retainers. There are three smaller subsidiary keeps which are directly connected to the main keep via corridors used as additional living quarters and defense mechanisms. The castle does not have a jokamachi {castle town}. {conditions are hot and humid with gentle to torrential rains of at least half a centimeter occurring more than two hundred fifty days of the year with foggy conditions on the days it doesn’t rain, surrounding the castle is dense tropical rainforest tightly packed with flora and fauna in mountainous terrain, beware jaguars, tigers, loud and thieving monkeys, pythons, vipers, crocodiles, electric eels, piranha, parasitic fish, poison dart frogs, venomous insects, stinging trees, sandbox trees (that 'throw' explosive fruit with spiky poisonous two centimeter seeds at seventy meters per second), and poisonous and carnivorous plants}. Camp Senshi {warrior, soldier, fighting person} is the military fire base that houses the Winters Dream GSF unit, the 6th Ghost DCMS unit, and recently added the Nejiro Fire Brigade North Kusonokawa Wildland Firefighting and Search and Rescue unit. The Camp is east of Gakkel Ridge, {the mountain chain which separates the highlands of the Ran Jangala (orchid jungle) from the hilly grasslands of the Kusonokawa (river of grass)}, and the city of Rainbow {Free City of mostly consumer manufacturers}. The Camp is south of the city of Samar {'college town' chartered by the Koizumi Dai Ichizoku}, the landhold of the Sakamura Koichizoku, and the Aegis Arms Plant 4 industrial park {a Phoenix Industries company}. It is north of the Vulcan Arms industrial Park {a charter holding of the Saganami Dai Ichizoku that securely hosts many of Nejiro's independent defence contractors as well as government think tanks and research and development labs} and the city of Majuro {industrial city chartered by the Saganami Dai Ichizoku}. The Camp is situated on tropical wetland savanna (that comprises most of the lands of the Kusonokawa province of northeastern Shinrin). {Conditions are mostly sunny, hot, humid, it rains often during the wet season, there is tall grassland (bamboo, bermuda grass etc.) meadows and marshes as far as the eye can see with sparse tree cover, there are a great many birds (beware the oniwatori), herds of roaming herbivores, groups of swift ambush predators, and reptiles (beware the crocodiles).} The Camp is near to the Flowerdale River (that runs mostly parallel to the Gakkel Ridge) and has both docks on the river and a canal dock inside the fire base. {the Flowerdale River tributaries and canals travel to most locations in the Kusonokawa province} Currently the main Camp mostly consists of a tent city, quonset huts, foldable buildings, steel frame warehouses and workspace/repair bays but construction has commenced on more permanent and expanded facilities. The Camp is defended by artillery and field guns, and also anti-aircraft weaponry that protects small craft and other military and civilian aero traffic that supply the fire base. {Winters Dream and 6th Ghost now is the time please to speak up about any wants/needs/wild wishes} Construction has also commenced at the new harbor on the Oronan Bay coastline on the Akai Umi {red ocean} at the outer eastern perimeter of the Camp where a navy yard and an air station, and also civilian accommodations for the Nejiro Defense Troop is underway. Tollways and high-speed military rail spurs directly from the Camp to Majuro, Rainbow, Samar, Aegis Arms Plant 4, and the Vulcan Arms Industrial Park were also recently completed. Camp Senshi This base is in the northern part of Shinrin. It is a few kilometers from Aegis Arms plant number four and a few hundred kilometers from Majuro (to the south) and Samar (to the north). It is the home to GSF (Winter’s Dream) and DCA (6th Ghost) security forces.
