# Private Message to Joy Private Message to [[Joy Yorokobi]] from [[Jasmine Or’lient]]: After a quarter of a year on planet, and just starting to deal with the same repair issues as others in the GSF. Not that it's hard but can take way longer than the initial damage will suggest. As more things need repairs, the more likely it is that the units I need to be using are unavailable, or the higher the chance I will need to field something with damaged components. So while it doesn't magically make repairs easier, I want to invest in outreach, training, tooling, and expansion of our repair facilities. The MAWs based training is an excellent resource and I see some for tech crews, but question if these are advanced or basic. ## Training Train up out current techs. They are good, but they could be better. Even my head tech. Focusing on interns for recruitment will also keep a steady supply of techs that can have more up to date knowledge and fresh ideas, but even with those fresh ideas coming in, I want to make sure our current teams are skilled up. I would like to start by reaching out to the head of the maintenance classes to get an idea of the level they are for. Also, are there any other companies or facilities that can fill this need? These can be offsite or onsite. ## Outreach (University Career Services outreach) We will begin outreach to university Career Services departments to establish a flow of paid internships that provide supervised, hands-on experience for students in vehicle maintenance and diagnostics. Initial contact should be formal and focused on partnership logistics rather than direct student recruitment. Suggested email to Career Services: Subject: Paid internship partnership opportunity — hands-on vehicle maintenance Dear [Internship Coordinator / Career Services Manager], My name is [Name], [role] at [Organization]. We are developing a paid internship program designed to provide students with supervised, practical experience in advanced vehicle maintenance and diagnostics. The program is intended for students who have completed foundational coursework and are seeking applied, competency-based experience. Key program details: - Duration: [e.g., 12 weeks] - Time commitment: [e.g., part-time 20–30 hours/week] with scheduling flexibility for class commitments - Compensation: stipend of [amount] per week; travel allowance as required - Learning: hands-on lab work, supervised repairs, diagnostic tool training, safety procedures, and a final practical assessment - Audience: students in mechanical/automotive/avionics/engineering programs or recent graduates seeking applied experience We are interested in posting this opportunity on your job board and discussing whether this placement could be credit-bearing or coordinated with an internship program. Additionally, we are open to discussing employer-sponsored cohorts, on-site information sessions, and interview scheduling through your office. Could you please advise on the appropriate next steps and the best contact for internship postings and partnership discussions? I am available for a brief call to discuss further. Sincerely, [Name] [Role] [Contact information] Short phone script (for Career Services contact): "Hello, my name is [Name] from [Organization]. I'm calling to discuss a paid internship partnership for vehicle maintenance and diagnostics. Could you direct me to the staff member who handles employer partnerships and internship postings? I'd like to arrange a short call to share program details and discuss posting and credit options." Career Services checklist (items to confirm during outreach): - Correct contact for internship postings and employer partnerships - Posting channels: job board, department listservs, faculty newsletters, on-campus recruiting events - Eligibility rules and whether internships can be credit-bearing; paperwork/process for credit - Timing: best windows for posting, interview seasons, and career fair dates - Background check, insurance, liability, and onboarding requirements - Any funding or stipend-matching programs available to employers - Campus interview or information-session logistics (virtual and in-person options) - Student eligibility criteria (enrollment status, documentation, GPA if applicable) - Points of contact for faculty alignment if credit or course integration is desired Once Career Services is engaged, we can then coordinate faculty or student-directed outreach and finalize posting language and timelines. ## Tooling All the training doesn't help if the teams don't have the tools they need. We already invest in keeping up. But like with training, spending more should see a benefit. It will also make it easier to recruit or invite for internships if while they are here they get a chance to work with tools from the basic hammer and wrench up to the state of the art that we have available. This might from time to time include the bays and facilities themselves. Whom may I contact about this? ## Expansion First in expansion I am going to work with Clan Starfall to create and start 'Brunhild Skyframe Solutions' that is a VTOL repair facility. I am working with them already, so don't need your help here, but it is related and good to know about with the other things I am talking about here. ## Notes - Everyone involved would be fully vetted by the GSF and anyone else who needs to sign off. - I will inform the rest of the GSF with more detailed plans in case someone wishes to collaborate. - If you want more details about an aspect of this plan, I can work those out. - The starting funds dedicated to this will start at $400,000 with, I hope, a minimum of $100,000 per month dedicated to it. ## Final Statement I'm not expecting immediate returns from this, and am thinking long term. I am hoping to see what it does over a few months and then either increase or decrease the amount per month. I want to keep the amount steady since the people portion of this is going to be people that want something steady. # Other News I found a discrepency in what you have vs. what I have and I think it's a difference in what something means. Also a general question about something that's been eluding me for a bit now. For Kem & Karenth who did Advanced Infantry Training. It says "Gives infantry and supporting unit +1 to skill levels. If support unit has LRMs spotting for indirect fire by attached infantry gets -1 to roll." The "+1 to skill levels" comes up a lot in that school doc. What does it mean? I figured it was a reduction of a skill level like gunnery or piloting or infantry. But you didn't note that in the TOE in the most recent file you sent that does like AIT for them. I want more to know what it means so I don't look at your version, then my version and find something off :) Another question, Infantry have their main skill and anti-mech skill. Do we only track one? Or how do those work? When a unit of infantry "Levels Up" can it pick either or what? Mainly I just don't see it listed a lot and was wondering.
